Valldemossa
You’ll find the village of Valldemossa in a valley in the Tramontana Mountains, which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This village with a Medieval feel is the most visited and well-known of all the villages in the Tramontana. The stone houses surrounded by the valley, the Royal Charterhouse, the Church of San Bartomeu and King Sancho’s Palace are just some of the most popular attractions that can be found among the village’s floral and cobbled streets.
Other reasons to visit this village include its connections with the famous composer Frédéric Chopin, who once stated that Valldemossa was the ‘most beautiful place in the world’. Together with his lover, French novelist George Sand, he spent the winter of 1838 in the Royal Charterhouse in Valldemossa. You can visit mementos from their time in Valldemossa at the Frédéric Chopin and George Sand Museum.
It is also possible to visit the birthplace of Saint Catherine of Palma, an important place of worship for many. In fact, Catherine of Palma is one of the most admired people in Mallorca, especially among residents of Valldemossa, as she is the island’s only saint.
