Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation
Joan Miró’s words “I want everything that I leave behind to stay just as it is when I am gone” could serve as a synopsis of the tour of the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation created by the couple and based in Palma de Mallorca. The centre houses an important collection of nearly 6,000 works donated by the artist, including paintings, sculptures and drawings.
One of the purposes of the foundation is to bring visitors closer to Miró’s endless creativity, with a chronological arc of his works that spans from 1908 to 1981.
The visit to this space is divided into four parts. The visit starts in the Sculpture Garden. Behind it is the Moneo Building where some of the Catalan painter’s works are displayed on a rotating basis. Then you come to Miró’s studio: the Sert Studio. In it there are still some of his unfinished paintings and work overalls. On the last stop of the tour, other personal objects can also be seen in the Son Boter studio. These include newspaper and magazine clippings nailed to the walls with thumbtacks, as if time had never passed here.
