Lluc Monastery
In the municipality of Escorca, in the heart of the Tramontana mountains, you will find the island’s most important pilgrimage site: Lluc monastery. Also known as the Sanctuary of Santa María de Lluc, it is the place where the Virgin of Lluc, the patron saint of Mallorca, is located. She is called “La Moreneta” (the Little Dark One) because of the colour of her skin.
Entry is free, offering the opportunity to explore inside or walk through the botanical garden, established in 1956 and which is built in such a way that you will not pass through the same place twice until you reach the end. Good news for visiting pilgrims, or for lovers of hiking, is that the interior of the monastery has accommodation to enjoy the Mallorcan cultural landscape.
As well as accommodation, inside you will also find the sanctuary museum, where there is graphic and visual documentation, from archaeology to textile crafts, which explains the past of the temple divided into eight rooms.
