The island of Mallorca has over 10,000 known caves, making it one of the best places to go on a caving excursion. Some of Mallorca’s caves are located underground and others are accessed from the sea.

Many of Mallorca’s caves are important outside of Spain. One of those caves is Sa Gleda, the largest underwater cave in Europe. Located in Manacor, it has a length of 13 kilometres and a depth of 25 metres. This cave is so deep that few divers have dared to travel its full extension, meaning that its labyrinth structure has not been completely mapped out.

Another example is Pas de Vallgornera in the area of Llucmajor. This cave is 73 kilometres long and is considered the largest on the Balearic Islands and one of the largest in Europe. It is also unique for the number of fossils found inside the cave, as well as its diverse morphology. That’s why it’s often referred to as ‘the cave of science’.
